About Islam

The word Islam refers to submission and surrender to Allah, and the central message brought by all of the Prophets was to worship Allah alone and submit to Him. They called their people to the belief that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah. This is reflected in the declaration of faith made by a person when accepting Islam: “There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.”

The Prophets sent by Allah to mankind include, but are not limited to, Adam, Idris (Enoch), Nuh (Noah), Hud, Salih, Ibrahim (Abraham), Lut (Lot), Isma'il (Ishmael), Ishaq (Isaac), Ya'qub (Jacob), Yusuf (Joseph), Ayyub (Job), Shu'ayb, Musa (Moses), Harun (Aaron), Dhul-Kifl, Dawud (David), Sulayman (Solomon), Ilyas (Elijah), Al-Yasa' (Elisha), Yunus (Jonah), Zakariyya (Zechariah), Yahya (John), Isa (Jesus), and Muhammad ﷺ. Peace and blessings be upon them all.

The Qur’an demonstrates that the message of submission to Allah was not unique to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Regarding Ibrahim (Abraham) عليه السلام, Allah says: “Ibrahim was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was a Muslim, inclining toward truth, and he was not of the polytheists.” (Qur’an 3:67). Likewise, when Isa (Jesus) عليه السلام called his disciples to support the cause of Allah, they responded: “We are supporters of Allah. We have believed in Allah and testify that we are Muslims.” (Qur’an 3:52). Musa (Moses) عليه السلام also called upon his people to place their trust in Allah, saying: “O my people, if you have believed in Allah, then rely upon Him, if you should be Muslims.” (Qur’an 10:84). These verses demonstrate that the fundamental message of the Prophets was one: to worship Allah alone, submit to Him and follow His guidance.

Who is Prophet Muhammad ﷺ?

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is the final Messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets. He was sent to confirm the truth brought by the Prophets before him and to convey Allah’s final revelation to mankind. His life provides Muslims with a practical example of how to worship Allah, develop good character, treat others and live according to divine guidance. Allah says: “Indeed, We have sent you as a witness, a bearer of good news and a warner.” (Qur’an 33:45).
